Meta's 'Series' Feature: A Late Entry into Episodic Reels, With Monetization Still TBD
Meta is currently in the testing phase for a new feature called "Series," designed to bring more structured, episodic content to Reels on both Instagram and Facebook. This move, happening in 2026, allows a select group of creators to bundle their Reels—both new and old—into cohesive, multi-part narratives. Each Reel effectively becomes an episode, housed within a dedicated hub on the creator's profile, complete with a new tab displaying all episodes in sequential order.
For viewers, the feature aims to streamline content discovery. As users scroll through their feeds or the Reels tab, they'll encounter an option to tap into a full series. The functionality also includes options to save a series for later viewing or to easily keep up with new episode releases.
This isn't entirely new territory in the creator economy. Rival platform TikTok notably launched its own Series feature back in 2023, allowing creators to gate premium content behind a paywall. Meta, however, is taking a different approach for now. While it has informed TechCrunch, as reported by consumer news reporter Aisha Malik, that monetization is "under consideration," no specifics have been shared, and the current iteration does not include a paywall.
Meta stated that the decision to build Series was informed by "already seeing serialized content take off" on its platforms. The company is working with creators and content producers who have a track record of sharing such content. However, specific names of these testers have not been disclosed. As of now, Series remains in a testing phase, with no confirmed broad rollout date or detailed monetization strategy publicly announced.
